OPEN MIC – SUNDAY NIGHTS AT THE “MAD BATTER” .

Summer 2012 .. has brought in some very talented musicians to the Mad Batter on Sunday Evenings.
This past Sunday July 1, 2012 I had the honor of listening to them perform.
WCFA Radio ( 101.5,cape may) personality MQ MURPHY hosts the open mic night.
He had a great line up of talent.. starting with “MQ” himself, followed by fiddle player “Tom Naglee jr”…”Roy Baker” ( loved his version of “sweet baby james”).
We also heard performances from “J.M Kearns”, “Barry Tischler” AND “Sid Kelly”.
It was a fun group of talented musicians. I loved the way Sid Kelly would jump in and join the other performers for certain sets. I also enjoyed Tom Naglee on fiddle joining in with the others. Everyone seemed to work so well with each other. They all made some beautiful music together last night.
i enjoyed alot of the oldies, like -KING OF THE ROAD, GO ASK ALICE, YOU AINT GOIN NOWHERE, and HUNGRY HEART.

open mic night will be every Sunday evening for the summer. Come stop by and join in, have a drink, or just enjoy the sounds of cape may artists at their best!!

SPRING WINE DINNER 2012

On May 4, 2012 The Mad Batter Restaurant presented a Spring Wine Dinner.

the meal consisted of

appetizer : Pan seared scallops with cracked black pepper bacon leeks, caviar remoulade.cream of asparagus soup

Roasted fig salad with spring greens and almond crusted brie, strawberry vinaigrette,

Roasted Tenderloin with cognac reduction and vidalia onion mushroom risotto.

Rhubarb crisp

*Each course paired with wine
Tickets $75.00 including tax and gratuity

IT WAS A EXTREMELY FUN AND INTERESTING DINNER..

MARK Metzger came and shared many wines for each course of the meal.

He was from American BD Company. (NJ) Omni Wine Company.

Every year, the Mad Batter hosts a luncheon for veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. This year’s event was held March 14, 2012. CapeMay.com filmed this interview with local business owner John Reid, who served in the 101st Airborne Division as a combat engineer and demolition expert.

Another season has passed us by! People always say, “the older you get the faster time flies!” I really cant believe another year has gone by and fall is here once again. It seems like just yesterday we were digging out our beach chairs and pulling out all of our summer clothes from the attic!

October porches pumpkin martinis and scarves sum up what a perfect fall day is for me! To be able to sit out on a sun-filled porch with a cocktail and reminisce with old friends and/or meet new ones! Time flies….. so make sure you find the time to sit back relax and enjoy the beauty of the season!

Veterans Day

Last Veterans Day, the Carroll Villa Hotel participated in a national event to give away rooms to veterans from World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. The entire hotel was filled with veterans from as early as the ’40s.

Where is Spring?

It is eagerly awaited by all…At least by me..I love to see the buds begin to develop on trees and the rainbow of colors of all the flowers and trees which dot the landscape. Pam and I just returned with friends from a great weekend in Lambertville, New Jersey..If you haven’t been there you should make a trip. It is the sister town to New Hope nestled along the Delaware River very close to Trenton.There is a great flea market there called the Golden Chesnut where you can look for treasures as well as junk three days a week.

Back in Cape May, we are getting ready for the warmer weather. This coming weekend in Jazz weekend. It is hard to believe that Easter has still not arrived..Where is that Easter bunny? Followed closely by Mother’s day..A great day since everyone has a mother.

Hope to see you soon at the Batter . The front porch is always a great play to sip a cup of coffee watching the world go by.
