Summer Festivals in Cape May We Never Miss

Updated for 2026

Summer festivals bring Cape May to life with live music, local food, parades, and waterfront celebrations all season long. Nearly every weekend comes with something worth adding to your getaway plans.

Some events feature nationally known performers on the beach. Others celebrate small-town traditions with strawberry shortcake, tomato sandwiches, and family-friendly fun. That mix is part of the magic here. You can build a whole trip around one big event, or simply stumble into something memorable after dinner.

Cape May’s summer festivals are lively, local, and wonderfully easy to enjoy at your own pace.

Free Concerts at Rotary Park

📅 Now – September 6, 2026

The Free Music in the Park series brings summer evenings to Rotary Park’s gazebo. Locals and visitors gather with lawn chairs, blankets, and very strong opinions about the best ice cream afterward.

A few 2026 performances we’re especially looking forward to:

  • Gerard & Diane, Carole King Tribute — July 13
  • Crossfire Hurricane, Rolling Stones Tribute — July 17
  • Cape Shore Jazz Orchestra — July 19
  • Jack Melton Swing Band — July 25
  • Charlie Zahm and Friends — August 30

Music ranges from jazz and swing to tribute bands and acoustic favorites. Grab ice cream afterward, take a sunset stroll, and enjoy one of our favorite live music events in Cape May. Rotary Park is also close to downtown shops and restaurants, so this is an easy no-stress evening plan. Arrive early, browse a little, then settle in before the first song.

Crowds gather under the night sky to watch a colorful fireworks celebration.

4th of July Celebrations

📅 July 4, 2026

Cape May does the Fourth exactly the way you hope it will. Patriotic homes, beach crowds, American flags everywhere, and plenty of ways to celebrate all day long.

This year marks America’s 250th birthday, so the celebrations should feel especially festive around town. The town also puts on a huge fireworks display every year, and people from all over travel to see it!

A few holiday events to keep on your radar:

This is one of the busiest festivals in summer, so plan ahead and settle into the fun. Cape May absolutely shines during holiday weekends. Parking and dinner reservations can fill quickly, especially around sunset. Leave extra time between plans, wear comfortable shoes, and let the day unfold without rushing from spot to spot.

Cape May Baby Parade

📅 July 31, 2026

The 91st Cape May Baby Parade is a beloved beachfront procession with children in decorated strollers, wagons, carriages, and mini floats. Families dress little ones in costumes and parade along Beach Avenue.

You don’t need a stroller in the lineup to love it. Arrive early with coffee, claim a good viewing spot, and let the cuteness take over.

The crowd cheers, the families go all out, and the whole morning feels joyful, nostalgic, and wonderfully Cape May. It’s also a sweet option for multi-generation trips. Grandparents, parents, and kids can all enjoy it without needing tickets, complicated timing, or a long walk across town.

MidAtlantic Tournament

📅 August 16–21, 2026

The MidAtlantic Tournament brings serious sportfishing energy to Cape May every August. Boats line the marinas, crowds gather around the docks, and weigh-ins become the main event.

This tournament is one of the biggest offshore fishing competitions on the East Coast. Crews compete for major prize money, bragging rights, and one very memorable week on the water.

Head to the waterfront for the afternoon weigh-ins, watch the boats return, and soak up all the dockside excitement! Even if fishing is not usually your thing, the atmosphere is worth seeing. The docks buzz with stories, photos, boat chatter, and plenty of suspense.

West Cape May Tomato Festival

📅 September 5, 2026

The West Cape May Tomato Festival celebrates Jersey tomatoes at their late-summer best. Local farms, food vendors, artists, and live music fill Backyard Park for the day.

You’ll find fresh produce, tomato sandwiches, handmade goods, baked treats, and plenty of red-themed fun. It’s casual, cheerful, and very easy to snack your way through.

Come hungry, wander the booths, and enjoy one of Cape May’s tastiest summer afternoons. This is a great festival to pair with a slower beach morning. Sleep in, enjoy the ocean air, then head over when you’re ready for lunch and browsing.

Stay Steps from Cape May’s Summer Festivals

Summer festivals give Cape May its easygoing energy, with live music, local food, parades, and waterfront celebrations all season long. One weekend might bring fireworks by the beach, while the next calls for strawberry shortcake or music at Rotary Park.

Staying at Carroll Villa keeps you close to all of it. Spend the day enjoying Cape May’s festivals, then come back for a relaxed evening downtown. That convenience matters during summer, when traffic, parking, and packed schedules can eat into vacation time. A walkable stay keeps the focus where it belongs: on the fun.

Book your stay at Carroll Villa and experience some of Cape May’s best events just steps from your room.
